A donor chooses a piece of real property to donate. An appraisal is made to establish the estimated fair market value of that property.
The property is assessed to establish compliance with the Real Estate Foundation’s acceptance policies.
Title is transferred to the Real Estate Foundation.
The Real Estate Foundation collects all pertinent documentation and handles all administrative, due diligence, and marketing details.
Proceeds from the sale of a property may be placed in any of a number of charitable funds in the donor’s name, or in the name of a family or business, or in honor of any person or organizations.
Proceeds may also be distributed to a charity in San Luis Obispo County.
Proceeds of the property sale may also create an endowed fund, which supports the community in perpetuity. Earnings from the endowment can be used to make grants addressing community needs. A property donation, as well as all future earnings from the assets of that property, can provide a permanent source of benefit to the San Luis Obispo County community.
The Real Estate Foundation accepts the following types of real estate donations:
Single Family Homes
Undivided interests in real estate
Vacation or second home properties
