How It Works
- A donor chooses a piece of real property to donate. An appraisal is made to establish the estimated fair market value of that property.
- The property is assessed to establish compliance with the Real Estate Foundation’s acceptance policies.
- Title is transferred to the Real Estate Foundation.
- The Real Estate Foundation collects all pertinent documentation and handles all administrative, due diligence, and marketing details.
- Proceeds from the sale of a property may be placed in any of a number of charitable funds in the donor’s name, or in the name of a family or business, or in honor of any person or organizations.
- Proceeds may also be distributed to a charity in San Luis Obispo County.
- Proceeds of the property sale may also create an endowed fund, which supports the community in perpetuity. Earnings from the endowment can be used to make grants addressing community needs. A property donation, as well as all future earnings from the assets of that property, can provide a permanent source of benefit to the San Luis Obispo County community.
